Separate basic requirements from recommendation guidance
Google’s general screenshot guidance calls for JPEG or 24-bit opaque PNG, dimensions between 320 and 3840 pixels, and a longest side no more than twice the shortest. Its recommendation-oriented guidance adds further considerations, including multiple high-resolution app screenshots. A technically allowed size and a recommended presentation are therefore different questions. Use the correct section for your app and device category. Do not treat a phone preset as a universal requirement for tablets, television, wearables, or every other Google Play listing surface.
Use a sensible phone canvas, then verify the content
The phone presets include 1080 × 1920 portrait and 1920 × 1080 landscape. These are useful recommendation-oriented dimensions, not a guarantee that the rest of a listing satisfies all guidance. Google describes a set of at least four qualifying high-resolution app screenshots for certain recommendation opportunities. Plan enough distinct real product views to explain the app, and inspect the current wording before relying on eligibility. A template’s fictional app screens must be replaced with accurate captures from the app you intend to publish.
Show the actual large-screen experience
A tablet or other large-screen listing should demonstrate the interface on that form factor. Stretching a phone capture can make text bigger while failing to show the layout that matters. Google’s large-screen section has separate resolution guidance and advises focusing on the core app experience rather than extra promotional captions. Capture the workspace as it genuinely appears, with useful populated content and no private information. Check that a device frame or surrounding headline is appropriate for the target surface instead of assuming the phone design can simply be reused.
Build the feature graphic on its own canvas
A Google Play feature graphic uses 1024 × 500 pixels. Its broad, shallow space requires a different composition from a portrait screen. Keep the focal point clear, use original artwork that relates to the app, and review the guidance on text, branding, and placement. Google advises against device imagery and store badges in feature graphics. A decorative phone mockup that looks useful in a screenshot template should therefore not be carried into this asset by habit. Use the dedicated feature-graphic category as a starting point.
Keep claims and example data honest
Show features that exist in the submitted app, and do not insert fabricated ratings, rankings, awards, testimonials, or usage numbers. If your source capture contains a real person’s information, replace it with appropriate sample data before import. Avoid capturing unrelated operating-system notifications. Choose a screen that explains the task rather than displaying only an empty state. A clear design should make the real app easier to understand; it should not create a more impressive fictional product that visitors cannot actually use.
Flatten and inspect the image files
Export the images as opaque PNG or JPEG, and inspect the actual files outside the editor. Confirm the dimensions of each screenshot and the exact 1024 × 500 dimensions of the feature graphic. Check thin type and small controls for softness, particularly if you choose JPEG. Extract a ZIP before reviewing its individual images, and confirm that the file order matches the intended sequence. A visual white background alone is not proof that an encoded PNG lacks an alpha channel; the export process needs to flatten it.
Use official guidance for the final submission
This guide organizes the practical preparation steps; Google’s current documentation governs the store requirements. Read the parts that apply to the asset and device class you are submitting, and check the fields in Play Console. Other form factors may have specific restrictions that these phone and feature-graphic examples do not cover. AppScreenshot.online does not claim approval, endorsement, or complete compliance across every Google Play surface. Keep a backup of the editable design so a required revision does not start from a flattened export.
